|Portfolio Artist's Technique|
Texture is the most important element in Joy Huyck art. It is derived by the application of Model paste and other mediums to the drawing on the canvas. Templates and a variety of materials are then pressed into the wet surface in order to create the desired effect, the areas are then allowed to dry. |
Staining and layering of color is the next most important element in Joy Huyck Art. Each layer of color is allowed to set and dry for 24 hours. Between each layer of color, the areas are sanded, scraped, and in other ways distressed in order to manipulate the texture. The numbers of layers range from 10 to 20 or more, on each canvas. Upon close observation, the viewer can delve deep into the surface of each canvas, discovering the many layers.
These techniques have been developed by the artist over the past 50 years.
